Renowned for his dramatic portrayals in the world’s major opera houses, David Pittsinger is a favorite among EWS au­diences. His entertaining recital program includes music by Bach, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Handel, and selections from the American Songbook to celebrate the American spirit. Performing with Simon Holt, piano.

Mr. Pittsinger will perform a unique program that includes Bach, Handel, Mendelssohn and Brahms, as well as selections from the American Songbook to celebrate the American spirit.


Artist Biography:


David Pittsinger, bass-baritone

American bass-baritone David Pittsinger is one of the most sought-after artists of his generation. His celebrated performances have made him a favorite with critics, audiences and conductors alike. His appearances with the Metropolitan Opera have included broadcast performances as The Friar in Verdi’s Don Carlo, Trulove in The Rake’s Progress, Achilla in Giulio Cesare, Colline in La Boheme, and as The Speaker in the Met’s first HD broadcast of Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Pittsinger’s 2009 season began with his first Broadway appearance as Emile de Becque in the Tony award-winning production of South Pacific, Enobarbus in Samuel Barber’s Antony and Cleopatra at Carnegie Hall, Seneca (Poppea) at Vienna’s Theater an der Wien, and Cadmus/Somnus in Handel’s Semele in Vienna. Mr. Pittsinger’s wide-ranging operatic repertoire has brought him to leading opera houses in the United States, France, Austria, Canada, Germany, Switzerland and Belgium. Orchestral highlights include appearances with the Vienna Philharmonic, WDR Symphony, Salzburg Festival, Dresden Festival, NY Philharmonic, Cincinnatti May Festival, Los Angeles Philharmonic, I Solisti Veneti, Houston Symphony, St. Luke’s Chamber Orchestra, and Dallas Symphony. His discography includes Charles Ives Songs (Naxos), La Calisto (Harmonia Mundi), Carlisle Floyd’s Susanna (Virgin Records), and Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra for Ricercar. Mr. Pittsinger has received “Artist of the Year” Awards from New York City Opera (Don Giovanni, Figaro, and Orlando), Florida Grand Opera (Tosca, La Sonnambula), Pittsburgh Opera (Boito’s Mefistofele and Gounod’s Faust) as well as “Outstanding Alumnus Award” from his undergraduate alma mater University of Connecticut. He also holds a master’s degree from Yale University.
