2015 Season Outreach
Activities in New London

The Band – from L to R: Vince Giordano, (String Bass, Tuba, Bass Sax), Molly Ryan (Vocal), Jeff Barnhart (Piano), Tom Palinko (Percussion), Dan Levinson (Sax, Clarinet)

An All-Star traditional jazz band performed for enthusiastic assemblies of students at two New London Schools on October 10 as part of Essex Winter Series’ (EWS) musical outreach program. The concerts were arranged and directed by Jeff Barnhart, the renowned Jazz Musician, bandleader, and entertainer who serves as jazz artistic advisor for Essex Winter Series. Joining him onstage was Grammy–Award winner Vince Giordano on string bass, tuba, and bass saxophone, as well as Dan Levinson on saxophone and clarinet and Tom Palinko on drums. A special treat was an appearance by Molly Ryan, one of the most sought-after vocalists on the New York jazz scene.

The assemblies took place at Jennings Elementary School and Nathan Hale Arts Magnet School in New London. Jeff Barnhart and his band can always be counted on for lively, toe-tapping performances that excite audiences of all ages. At Nathan Hale, a talented young student got up and sang with the band, with great poise and stage-presence.

Funding for this program was provided by the Kitchings Family Foundation.

The jazz outreach program in New London is part of Essex Winter Series’ commitment to bringing professional musicians into to the community. EWS also brings classical music to

schools and senior residences in Middletown, Essex, Deep River, and other Shoreline communities.
