Thank you Sarah Cody and WTNH for highlighting a very importent component of the Essex Winter Series mission to bring world-class music to the widest and most culturally, economically, and socially diverse audience in our community. In addition to our fall outreach to bring jazz musicians to New London schools, EWS has brought emerging artists to schools and senior communities in Middlesex and New London counties each spring for 13 years. The spring outreach program has grown over the years to a four-day residency that not only features education and entertainment opportunities, but a free masterclass and concert open to the public.

This year’s emerging artist, clarinetist Bixby Kennedy, delighted people of all ages at 11 schools and 3 senior communities as well as at the Essex Library. This talented performer offered not only variety, a clear exhiition of skills and range, and even sounds many might not even know a clarinet could produce, but simply wonderful music to hear. We are grateful to Bixby for making our spring 2024 outreach such a success … a success possible through the donations to the Fenton Brown Circle and funding in part from the Essex Savings Bank Community Investment Program, The Kitchings Family Foundation, and the Community Foundation of Middlesex County through a grant made possible by the generosity of the Guilford Savings Bank Charitable Fund and St. Luke’s Home Fund.
